t it up

spring is definitely here, at least it is in north carolina: sunny and sixty degrees.  that is my excuse for not writing in this for a few weeks so here goes nothin’

i recently attended the observer clinic in chapel hill at the queen city qualifier, my feelings before the weekend were pretty up and down.  weekends are few and far between in the spring and this would be the last chance at freedom until april and there’s no better place to spend a weekend than wilmington.  the clinic itenerary had 5-6 hours of classroom time(thats like half a week of school for me, sup 12 credit hours) so i was pretty much dreading waking up at 6:30 after a night with my friend pabst* and attempted to get out of it very unsuccessfully.  alas, on two hours of sleep me and patti depart for what i anticipated to be the worst day ever**

45 minutes late( i partly blame that on chapel hills serious lack of street signs) jacked on caffeine and still in ballet flats, i walk into the clinic… fast forward through all the observer stuff and burritos at cosmics, the day was getting better every time mitch said “t it up”*** written test complete, sara casey and i had the fortunate opportunity to observe the Pleiades/Phoenix showcase game…

not only did we get certified during the highest level game of the weekend, we got a front row seat to watch the 2 seed at QCTU a week early.  we are going into the tournament the 1 seed, with a target the size of _________ on our back.  watching this game didnt make me any more comfortable with our current position.  most typically leila could put the disc wherever she wanted it, more specifically the inside-out flick that has completed one too many goals against me personally.  lang wasnt playing and, in my opinion, one of the most underrated players in our region, janna, was money.  what carolina has and will always have is throws, from leila to their A-team freshman, they have an arsenal.  what we have that we will always have is athleticism, someone wrote last regionals that we were scrappy and didnt have the skill to advance at nationals(to whoever that was: can you say broke seed?).  our teams are very different: different attitudes, different styles, different skill sets…but similar in that we are both good teams and getting better.  so, if everything holds seed this weekend, we should be slated to meet up sunday afternoon for what is now the 9th game against them in my career, we’re different teams from pre-quarters of nationals last year(the last match we played).  its my first time playing them as a captain and for me, the outcome will say a lot about where we have come from and where we are going.

i know who i have my money on

do you?

until $unday…
