For the beginning of the spring semester, WUWU came together and wrote a document to define their aspirations to be reached with their season. This is the “Two WU’s” 2011 Covenant. It was a document created to unify what the team wanted to pursue in all aspects of the competitive season. Something as tangible as this document made me want to see just how WUWU was going to display their visible reminder of the goals to be reached…thus, the Covenant Competition. “How are you going to see your goals every day?” Because of my artistic background I felt qualified to offer my comments below and also, the winners are revealed…

Sam: Cheery…the wall color that is. You have a very nice display of quality photos and what better way to define team unity than with photos of the team! Bonus points for a larger “Two Wu’s” addition.
Naomi: Ah….birds. Everything is better with a bird on it. Coming from someone who literally has a bird tattooed on her body, you get bonus points. You get bonus points after I figure out what the symbolism of birds has to do with ultimate.

Becky: I appreciate the artistic development of a train WuWu-ing alongside your covenant. Very nice personal touch that shows your inner artist.

Abby: Award for most punctual covenant display. Also the usage of technology to create your display for you is ingenious.

Cynthia: So graphic art. Ah! I’m a sucker for silhouette usage…bonus points.

Fookie: I like the down and dirty of this…scissors and glue were involved and I can feel that. No, I mean, I really feel that. Like, I’m in elementary school again…love it.
Deuce: Of course, when you apply something to your wall, you don’t want to leave tape marks on your rental walls when you remove it. Bonus points for painters tape because I used it on my covenant too.
Julie: Classic. There really is nothing more Ultimate player than Frisbees on the wall. I can’t give you bonus points on creativity but I tip my hat to you for making a solid choice in display…you can’t go wrong there.
Sarah: Again, the quality photos. Very nice. Symmetry will always be pleasing so bonus points for design layout.

Theresa: I simply have an addiction to scrabble thus, bonus points for banana-grams. Your display, although self-proclaimed as “esoteric” wins more bonus points for being personal and individual and for taking the entirety of a bulletin board.

Beep, bop, beep beep…bonus points tabulated for the participants and here are the standings:
Theresa wins for an individual and creative display mixing text as well as visual clues to remind her of the feelings of WUWU love. Cynthia is second for a very well designed display…one which a person could envision creating hundreds of multiples and plastering the campus with…covenant displays campus-wide anyone?
I give an honorable mention to Kami who did not submit a covenant (although wrote it) but did proclaim she “…had this fantastic idea to stitch the covenant onto my boyfriend’s chest so that I would a.) see it often (when he shows off that oh so chiseled body) and b.) maybe even lay my head upon it at night (get a kind of osmosis-effect going on). Then I came to the sad realization that there was a slight flaw in my plan: I don’t have a boyfriend.”
In my book, anyone that took the time to make a display wins. You are also awesome for having passed the photos my way. Never underestimate the power of visual cues that keep your goals in mind. Goals should be revisited each and every day. Good luck to you in getting to achieve them come the series….Two Wu’s!!!!
