Feeling the Star Power

I tried out for and made a new team based out of Minnesota called Minnesota Star Power. We are themed after none other than the great Mario Brothers games. This past weekend, we played our first tournament together as a team, Wisconsin Swiss (Madison, WI). I have never been more happy playing on a team than with these folks.

After making the team in a handler spot, I immediately got nervous because I’ve been a cutter for the 2 years I’ve played ultimate. But I’ve been going out and throwing all I can so that when it comes to game time, I can bring it. My experience over the weekend was about 50/50. 50% happiness to play ultimate again and to further understand more about the game. 50% frustration over the little things that we’ll work out as a team. I learned how to handle with a bunch of non-handlers so it was a little complicated at times.

Our last practice put a lot of focus on handler movement, and it all came together for me. I understand the movements and the role I have now. When you are lost on the ultimate field, it can be quite hard to do anything right or even get your hands on the disc. I was lost a few times last weekend but I’m already looking forward to my next chance to do things differently.

Meanwhile, life is changing so much around me. Ultimate is a good constant to have around and to use a stress relief. My full time job didn’t work out so I’m looking for alternatives. I’m also looking at some freelance violin work now, which is AWESOME. If there is anything that I love more than ultimate, it is violin and music.

Stay tuned for more of my ultimate adventures this club season 🙂
