So Here We Are

It’s the official entry into the blogging world. I remember back in November I came across a team blog for Hendrix Field Hockey, and I, being a bit of a cynic, scoffed at it. A team blog? What the hell is that even supposed to entail? Talking about your wins and losses? But after thinking about it, I realized that I was just a wee bit jealous. I guess maybe because Ultimate, being an unofficial sport according to our school (and several others across the nation), didn’t receive all the nice little privileges that other sports on campus received. And in this specific case, I was thinking about exposure –limelight. Who doesn’t like to receive attention?

At the beginning of winter break, I received an email from Michelle Ng about having the Gliders, along with multiple other teams across the nation, start a blog in order to get the word out about women’s ultimate. I had heard a lot about Michelle and Without Limits from the articles I had read over the summer on the USAUltimate and Huddle websites. I remember reading about Michelle’s efforts and projects to promote women’s ultimate, specifically in the South. And, coming from a liberal arts school – smack dab in the middle of Arkansas – as well as being part of a relatively young and small team, I thought it was a pretty good mindset to have as I embarked on the task of being women’s captain. Spreading the love of ultimate and making it a passion for other women –seemed like a good goal to me.

It wasn’t until reading her email that I realized… that this Michelle was the same Michelle whom I’d read about. Eager to help out, I emailed the girls and got a couple of responses back: even though some of them didn’t particularly care about having a blog, enough of them were down to give it a try! So here we are. This is our blog. I have a feeling that the vast majority of the posts are going to come from me, but I wanted this to be a chance to get the word out about our team and about women’s ultimate in who-knows-where Arkansas. I wanted this to be a chance for the girls to post their thoughts about the season and about the tournaments (and parties…), as well as giving me a chance to write about captaining a young, but rapidly growing team.
