Blog of the Week #1: Barefoot Ultimate

Without Limits is proud to present our first Blog of the Week. Each week, we will be featuring one of the blogs in our College Women’s Ultimate Blogroll. Danielle Hirsch and Claire Sharman, two of my dear University of Oregon Fugue friends, will be spearheading this effort to get the women’s division some additional media coverage.

This week’s featured blog is Barefoot Ultimate, authored by University of North Carolina-Wilmington co-captain Claire Chastain. Claire and her co-captain Jessica “Patti” Patrick, will be endeavoring to lead Seaweed back to the College Championships this season. Their new region features mainstay University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Pleiades, University of Virginia Hydra and North Carolina State Jaga Monsta who are making their way back to the top of the region, as well as the addition of University of Maryland Helpful Corn. Claire is the 2009 Atlantic Coast Region FOTY and was an integral part of Seaweed’s outstanding 5th place finish at the College Championships last year.

Last fall, Claire approached me about partnering on Women’s College Easterns. I tried to say no. Multiple times. But in the end, Claire’s persistence paid off. This year, Women’s College Easterns has grown to 24 teams, including multiple recent Nationals Qualifiers. Last year, the tournament had only 10 teams. The growth of the tournament is a testament to Claire’s commitment to her team and to college women’s ultimate.

Seaweed’s reputation in the college women’s division is not lost on Claire. Her first post addresses this head on: “Well one blog, tweet, post and tournament at a time, i will do my best to make you reevaluate your opinion.” If anyone can win the college women’s division over, it is Claire. You can “like” Seaweed on Facebook, follow them on Twitter, and follow Claire’s journey this season at Barefoot Ultimate.

Cheers to Claire’s efforts. Without Limits is proud to be Seaweed’s partner, and on a personal level, I am thankful to be friends with this inspiring college leader!
