About me…so far.

HI! I’m Aki. I decided to make my first post about me and who I am and why I have a blog blah blah. I know I’m probably supposed to put it in the section of the blog that says “about me,” but what can I say, I’m a rebel! jkjkjk. The real reason is I feel like I’m going to hopefully change – grow older, wiser, etc – while I have this blog so I wanted to instead show where I was when I started via my first post being an unofficial “about me.”

I am currently a senior at Yale University and I decided to start a blog because of the wonderful work of Michelle Ng and the Without Limits blogroll, so this blog will probably be mostly about women’s Ultimate. I play Ultimate frisbee and I would like to put in this disclaimer early: I do not consider myself a guru in Ultimate. I am a captain of Yale Women’s Team – Ramona – but I only began playing when I was a freshwoman, a mere 3 years ago, so I still consider myself a novice.

Since I’m not a guru, I would like to ask for your help: tell me what you want me to write about! I also don’t know what people really write on blogs…or what’s interesting…so I’m really here on the struggle bus for topics. And I like interactive stuff, so I figure you like interactive stuff! I want to hear from you. Want to hear about how we teach vert stack? Want to know what we do in the winter when it’s too cold for us to go outside? Want to know some sick track workouts? Want to discuss why there aren’t many people of color in Ultimate? Want to talk about being a woman athlete? Want to know my experience with mixed club Ultimate? Want to talk about the future of Ultimate babies (where people in the Ultimate community end up having babies) and/or my obsession with babies in general? Want to talk about the best jersey company? Want to talk about something else? Tell me via your comments! I would love to explore topics that the (few) readers of this blog are actually interested in. Even though I’ve only been playing for 3 years so far, Ultimate has become one of my greatest passions and the Ultimate community is one that has formed my college experience. I LOVE talking about frisbee!

I also might talk about other things (yikes!)…I am an avid photographer and also a sociology major so those topics (more likely the latter) will come out in these posts.

Also, I’m just gonna put this out in the open: I’m a proud biracial woman (Black and Japanese hollllaaaaaa) and I am certain that this will color my perspectives and how I present them.

Well, that’s a start. Please tell me topics you want to discuss!
