Only if you are into that sort of thing- which you should be.
The opportunity to be goofy and have fun together as a team (also known as bonding) creates chemistry. Like the most simple or complex offense, chemistry needs to be practiced. If team chemistry is something you value as a team/captain/coach remember to take the time and create opportunities for it to happen whether it is within your practice for ten minutes, a spontaneous team activity or a planned event! It might seem like something that is obvious (of course people want to have fun and Ultimate is exactly that) but I think it can get overlooked sometimes. ESPECIALLY NOW that Ultimate is quickly becoming more and more competitive not only on the Club level, but also from the top to the bottom of the College scene.
It is easy to get caught up in the mindset of ‘winning’, but winning is truly nothing without chemistry (ex Pop 2K10 vs. Pop 2K11). Teach your teammates to care about the mental well being of one another. Hard work should be rewarded with some fun time. Note: Hard work should be rewarded with some fun time (heavily implying hard work is also being done). And if you are extra smart about your ‘fun time’ you can trick them all by including some hard work! Like speed ball! Ultimate-like strategy with plenty of room for fun while also including conditioning! boomboomboom.
Plan a team retreat weekend, make it as mandatory as a tournament. Every person on your team will benefit from it. Include Ultimate. Include fun. Dance, laugh, sing, play, create, talk, cry, cook, prank. Suggest it, plan it, make it happen.
I mean it is Winter Break, we all have endlessly free schedules for a while now don’t we?
