I don’t have much to say as far as ultimate goes. It’s spring break. Nothing has changed in the world of Melee. Centex is my favorite tournament of the year. It’s nice to have a tournament close to home. Sometimes that makes it more difficult to focus but we prove last year at regionals that we are capable. Next weekend we will have both of our coaches and our entire team. Easterns was quite expensive and we had several ladies unable to attend. Having more depth than any other Texas team in the past, missing even one player makes a difference. I love it.
We had two workouts to complete by the end of the week. One of which was aptly named “shuttles of death.” It was recommended that you do them in sand. Surprisingly, it is easier for me to get to sand than a field or track. So I embraced the challenge. The sand was deeper than I expected and it had a lot of what I will call “give.” Meaning I slid backwards every time I tried to take a step. Turns were just controlled slides. I’ve done workouts in the sand before, but never this long. By the end it probably looked like I was taking a leisurely stroll. It was great preparation for Centex! This is where I confess that our fields are, in fact, going downhill (and uphill depending on where you are playing), and the most recent attempt to make them better has resulted in several sand pits in the middle of fields. I am definitely more prepared than anyone else for cutting on the IM fields!
As for the rest of Centex. There’s a lot to get done. We’ve put a lot of effort into getting sponsors for the tournament. I even worked on a few for the mixer so we have prizes to give out. That’s right! There will be prizes! And I get to decide what they are for! Yessssss. So excited.
Friday March 25, 7:30pm. Women’s College Flutterguts Championship. AKA Nationals. See you there!
