Laura Bitterman for Callahan 2010 from Emelie McKain on Vimeo.
Laura Bitterman is Bella Donna’s 2010 Callahan nominee because of her selfless dedication to her team, ridiculous athleticism, and leadership that requires the best out of everyone.
Bitterman has been on Bella Donna since her freshman year when she was a lightning-fast receiver who never wanted to catch a disc outside the endzone. Since then she has gotten more athletic (she does squats!) and more dangerous (she can huck!). She consistently leads the team by ending each game with stats upwards of +7, even if she only played 6 points. A tireless cutter and defender, Bitterman never stops moving on the field, getting D’s, skying for goals, and toeing the line to save the disc. More than just being an amazing athlete and player, she expects and helps her teammates try to do the same by constantly cheering, motivating, and coaching. She leads by example and is consistently referenced by the coaches of other teams as the most dangerous player we have.
On top of all that, Bitt has exceptional spirit and understanding of what it takes to play true Ultimate. Her honesty on the field shines through when she doesn’t call a foul that the rest of us might have tried to pull, or helps an opponent up after a physical play. She never lets go of her mental fortitude, staying calm on the field and showing both teams what it takes to be the best.
Bitterman exemplifies an ideal candidate for the Callahan award in her play-making ability, game-changing leadership, and incredible spirit; let’s give her the recognition she deserves!
